உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பில், "ரேபிஸ்' நோய் ஆலோசகராக உள்ள மதுரை மூளை நரம்பியல் சிகிச்சை டாக்டர் வி.நாகராஜன் கூறியதாவது:நாய் மட்டுமல்ல, எந்த மிருகம் கடித்தாலும்,கீறினாலும் "ரேபிஸ்' கிருமி, நரம்பு வழியாக தண்டுவடத்திற்கு செல்லும். பின், மூளைக்கு சென்று முகுளம், நடுமூளையில் சுவாசிக்க தூண்டும் நரம்பை பாதிக்கும். நினைவுகளை கொண்ட மூளைப்பகுதியை பாதிக்காது. மிருகங்களின் வாயில்கூட "ரேபிஸ்' கிருமி ஒட்டியிருந்து ஆபத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும். கடிப்பட்ட இடத்தில், உடனடியாக சலவை சோப்பால், கொட்டும் குழாய் நீரில், 15 முறை திரும்ப திரும்ப கழுவ வேண்டும். இதனால் 98 சதவீதம் "ரேபிஸ்' கிருமி இறக்க வாய்ப்புண்டு. பின், கடியின் தன்மையை பொறுத்து, மூன்று முறை அல்லது அதற்கு மேல் தடுப்பூசி போட வேண்டும்.தடுப்பூசியால் 80 சதவீதம் மட்டுமே இந்நோயை தடுக்க முடியும். முழுமையாக தடுக்க "இமினோ குளோபின்' என்ற

 

மருந்தை, கடிப்பட்ட இடத்தைச் சுற்றி 30 சதவீதமும், கை சதைப் பகுதியில் 70 சதவீதமும் போட வேண்டும். மூளையை பாதித்த பின், தடுப்பூசி போடுவது பயனற்றது. காரணம், அக்கிருமி மூளை நரம்புகளை பாதித்திருக்கும். எனவே, கடிப்பட்ட நாள் முதல் 10 நாட்களுக்குள்கிருமியை கொல்ல வேண்டும். இல்லாதபட்சத்தில் ஒன்றரை ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பின் கூட மூளையை தாக்கும். இவ்வாறு கூறினார்.
